Definitive's Patented Infinite Power Source MOSFET Power Amplifiers All Definitive's ProSub powered subwoofers incorporate our unique, patented digitally-coupled Infinite Power Source amplifiers with high-current direct coupled power supplies and discrete MOSFET output devices to ensure perfect high-definition resolution and reproduction of the most dynamic program material and demanding sub-bass transients. Construction quality is absolutely state-of-the-art with only the highest quality components used including mil-spec glass epoxy circuit boards and precision resistors and capacitors for many years of faultless superior performance. In addition, tremendous current reserves, high peak-power capabilities and two protection circuits ensure that these subwoofers can never be overdriven. There is also a convenient, signal-sensing, auto on/off feature.
Definitive's High-Definition Subwoofer Drivers Deliver Superior Detail and Lightning-Fast Transient Response
The powerful, high-definition drivers used in all our powered subwoofers were specifically engineered by Definitive for their task: to deliver rock-solid low distortion bass, reaching down to the lowest subsonic frequencies, with an outstanding quality of superior transient response unequaled in the world. The special ultra-stiff, low-mass cones (for super-fast transient response) are joined to specially formulated surrounds and long-throw voice coils and spiders. The incredibly rigid baskets are engineered to hold the massive magnet structures and large voice coils in absolute alignment. The high temperature voice coils are made of aluminum wound with triple insulated ultra-pure copper wire and baked in epoxy for power handling in excess of 750 watts.
Rock Solid Non-Resonant Cabinets Ensure Pure Low Distortion Response
The cabinet of a loudspeaker plays a large part in its sonic performance. Resonance and vibration can add unwanted distortion as well as drain away important energy from the system. Definitive's subwoofers utilize monocoque cabinets, which have been specifically engineered to be totally inert and vibration free, to ensure you of absolutely pure sonic reproduction. Monocoque means that the cabinet is of a unitized construction where all panels are permanently joined together into one solid structure. The cabinet walls themselves are high-density medite fused together by space-age polymer adhesives. The front and rear baffles are extra thick and the cabinets each incorporate multiple internal braces to ensure total solidity.
Completely Adjustable Electronic Crossovers Assure a Perfect Match to Your System and Room
The sophisticated low distortion electronic crossovers incorporated in all our powered subwoofers are a masterpiece of design and execution. They contain a complete range of hookups, circuitry and features which allow the subwoofers to be connected and perfectly blended with any system as well as adjusted for optimum performance in any room.
All Definitive powered subwoofers have continuously adjustable low pass filter controls which allow you to choose a roll-off of from 40 to 150 Hz for the high end of the subwoofer. This unique "dual stage" roll-off is extremely steep which ensures perfect blending with your main speakers as well as eliminating unwanted midrange from the subwoofer. This is especially important because it gives you much greater flexibility in placing your subwoofer in your room without being able to hear where it is located. All our powered subwoofers also have a separate low-level direct LFE input for Dolby Digital which bypasses the crossover network. All models have a built-in speaker level high-pass crossover preset at 80 Hz (except ProSub 60 preset at 100Hz) and, of course, a precision level control allows you to perfectly adjust the volume of the subwoofer to match your system and room as well as to fulfill your own personal sonic preferences.
A Full Range of Inputs and Outputs Facilitates Easy Hookup of Your Definitive Subwoofer to Any System
All Definitive powered subwoofers have a complete range of inputs, outputs and features to allow easy and effective hookup to any system either singly or in a stereo pair. Both (high) speaker level and low-level inputs are provided in case you don't have a subwoofer output. In addition, all models have a separate direct-in LFE low-level input (which bypasses the crossover network) which may be used by itself or in combination with left and right channel high- or low-level inputs for the ultimate in subwoofer flexibility and performance.

"It is shocking how much it has added to the soundfield of my system..."
I wired the PROSUB800 to the center channel of my surround system. The center speaker I use goes down to 35Hz and I realized how hard it was working with DVD Audio/SACD disc. I felt that I was missing additional low frequency, so I decided to try adding a subwoofer and I am thrilled with the results. It is shocking how much it has added to the soundfield of my system. After researching all the subwoofer options available, I chose the PROSUB800 for the following reasons. Frequency Response, small footprint, price/value, and Definitive Technology's reputation for quality and cutting edge technology. To say that I am pleased with my PROSUB800 purchase and its performance is understated. Note, it has also added the same punch to DVD/Blu-Ray movies and concerts.
"this sub delivers."
Having replaced all other speakers in my small living room with Def Tech SM350s, CLR2002 and ProMonitors, driven by a Denon 2808, it became apparent that my old Velodyne CHT-10 was clearly out of its league -- had a lot of bass, but not tight and defined, especially for music -- after several trips to audition various models, I was leaning toward a Supercube III, but kept wondering if that would be overkill due to the room size -- decided to give the ProSub 800 a try first, assuming I would probably return it and get the Supercube
I was pleasantly surprised -- the ProSub blends very well with the 350s, the lows are clear and have some punch -- I don't need to have pictures fall off the walls or feel like a tank is driving through the room -- I just want to hear music and sound effects which sound clear and natural, at a fair price, and this sub delivers.
"I would recommend this subwoofer to anyone."
After months of researching different models and brands of subwoofers, I finally decided to purchase the Definitive Technology ProSub 800.
I really wanted the older ProSub 100, but the only one I could find was an international model that runs on 240v and I didn't feel like purchasing a converter too.
I found an online electronics store that had an open-box item that was slightly discounted, but I was a bit leery because and wasn't sure if their description was accurate and that the product really was in perfect condition.
Regardless of whatever doubts I had, I purchased the subwoofer anyway.
I immediately opened the box and the product was in perfect condition! I couldn't wait to hook it up, so after work, I went home and used the LFE port on the back of my receiver with a Monster Cable Subwoofer Cable to the subwoofer.
After a few days of "testing" I noticed that the red light on the back of the subwoofer would go off after about 15-30 minutes of use.
I thought that maybe I had a defective unit, and was contemplating contacting the manufacturer.
I read through the manual and this subwoofer does have an auto on/off feature. However, the subwoofer shouldn't have been turning itself off. Also, it wouldn't turn back on unless the subwoofer cable, fuse or power cable was unplugged.
Eventually, I decided to try hooking the subwoofer to my receiver via the high level speaker inputs and then hooking my front left and right speaker to the subwoofer.
Oddly enough, this totally corrected the auto on/off problem and the subwoofer works perfectly fine now.
Here are my impressions now that the subwoofer works as it should:
Size - The subwoofer is rather small compared to some of the other ones I've seen. The footprint is about the size of my 15" Dell laptop. It's surprising the amount of sound and rumble you can get out of this thing.
Design - I do like the fact that the volume control is on the side of the subwoofer. It is definitely more convenient; however, now that the subwoofer volume is set, I doubt I will ever need to adjust. Also, I like the fact that this subwoofer only has 1 LFE input.
Sound - This subwoofer sounds great. I've paired it with a 600w receiver and ProMonitor 100 and ProCenter 100 speakers and as many digital audio connections as possible. It provides a reasonable amount of rumble with the volume turned only half way up.
The addition of the subwoofer makes a huge improvement on the overall sound quality of my home theater system and I am extremely happy with my purchase.
I would recommend this subwoofer to anyone.
